Getting started

Wikai turns your sources into a linked Markdown wiki on your disk. This page takes you from download to your first answer.

Install

Download the installer for your platform from the download page and run it. Wikai is a desktop app — there’s nothing to sign up for, and your wiki never leaves your machine.

System support today: macOS (Apple Silicon), Windows 10/11 (x64), and Linux (x86_64).

First run

The first time you open Wikai, a short setup step asks you to pick or create a wikis folder — the folder on your disk where Wikai keeps your wikis. Choose an existing folder or make a new one; everything Wikai writes lives there as plain Markdown.

Create a wiki

From the home screen, choose Create a new wiki. Give it a slug (lowercase, hyphens — e.g. de-bello-gallico) and an optional title. Wikai scaffolds the folder structure and drops you on the new wiki’s (empty) landing page.

Ingest your first source

Drop a file onto the wiki — an EPUB, a PDF, a DOCX — or paste a web link. Wikai reads it end to end and writes linked pages into your wiki. See Ingesting sources for the formats and details.

Ask your first question

Open the chat sidebar (top-right) and ask something about what you just added. The agent answers grounded in your wiki and can draft or edit pages for you. First time? See The chat sidebar to connect Claude Code or an Anthropic API key.
