Troubleshooting

The chat backend shows “needs install”

Wikai can’t find Claude Code, or it isn’t signed in. Install Claude Code, then run claude /login once in a terminal and click Re-detect in Settings. If it’s installed somewhere unusual, set the path with Use a different binary. No subscription? Use the Anthropic API fallback instead.

Concept search says “warming up”

The first semantic search downloads a small (~30 MB) embedding model. Once it’s cached, searches are instant. If you’re offline, it’ll finish the next time you have a connection.

The setup step reappears every launch

Wikai can’t write its config file. Make sure the app’s config directory (see Settings) is writable, then set your wikis folder again.

Windows SmartScreen warns about the installer

The installer is signed — but a signing certificate has to build reputation with Microsoft before SmartScreen stops asking, and ours is new. Until it does, you may see a caution. Choose More info → Run anyway.

You don’t have to take our word for it: right-click the .msiProperties → Digital Signatures and confirm the signer reads Atomic BITS. See verifying your download.
